The Visitor Center, located in Lanesborough, is the primary information and orientation site for visitors to Mount Greylock State Reservation. Built in 1972, it is located within a mix of open fields and woods and offers a spectacular panoramic view south across the Berkshire Hills and the Taconics. This site has an excellent view of the Housatonic River Valley watershed to the south, providing opportunities to explain the function of the watershed and the effects of glaciation and plate tectonics. The tiered parking lot is popular scenic destination during all times of the year. A recreational opportunity here includes an easy 1.8 mile loop hike along the Bradley Farm Interpretive Trail, through northern hardwood forest and colonies of ferns, examining abandoned farmland and forest succession. The center is open year-round.
