Coldbrook Springs was a thriving small village in the late 1800s, containing the Cold Spring House, a hotel/boarding house for visitors built next to a sulphur spring and an iron spring with a bath house; a blacksmith shop; a store, post office, and billiard hall; a machine shop; a box mill; and at least ten houses. The settlement was removed as part of Quabbin Reservoir Aqueduct system. Significant southern tracts are now state forest. Many foundations and remnants of the village are still present.
